Rugby fans are bidding farewell to a true legend as Bryan Redpath, the former Scotland captain and scrum-half, announces his departure from the Director of Rugby role at London Scottish. With a career spanning over 60 caps for his country, Redpath has been a pivotal figure in Scottish rugby, guiding the team through challenging circumstances. Despite limited resources, he has kept the team in the Champ, a remarkable feat. However, the 54-year-old has decided to step away from the sport to focus on his business ventures, leaving a lasting impact on the game.
Redpath's journey in rugby began with a decade of coaching in the Premiership, notably with Gloucester and Sale. He then took on the role of head coach at Yorkshire Carnegie in 2015, showcasing his versatility and expertise. However, his path took an unexpected turn when he left Headingley and rugby in 2017/18 to pursue a career in global payment and risk management with AFEX. Yet, his passion for the sport prevailed, and he returned to London Scottish in 2021.
In a heartfelt statement, Redpath expressed his gratitude to the board, sponsors, and supporters, acknowledging their unwavering support over the past four seasons. He particularly thanked the players for their dedication and the positive impact they had on his decision to stay. Under Redpath's leadership, Scottish Rugby has experienced both triumphs and challenges. The team finished 11th in his inaugural season and 9th in the following two, solidifying their position in a 12-team division. However, this season, they find themselves second-from-bottom, facing the prospect of a relegation play-off unless they can build on their recent success against Chinnor.
Stephen Pearson, President of London Scottish, paid tribute to Redpath's exceptional dedication and work, describing him as a pleasure to work with and a driving force behind the team's achievements. As Redpath prepares to hang up his boots, the rugby world reflects on his remarkable contributions, leaving a void that will be challenging to fill.
